IRS “Normal
Retirement Age” Regulations
At a meeting on September 19th that was attended
by representatives of the public retirement system community, members and staff
of the U.S. House Ways
and Means Committee, representatives of the U.S. Treasury, and the I.R.S.,
progress was made on the matter of the implementation of the I.R.S. regulations
defining “normal retirement age.”
Specifically, treasury officials gave assurances that regulations
relating to “normal retirement age” would, in very short order, be postponed
for further review. This means that these controversial regulations will not go
into effect on July 1, 2009 as the IRS had originally planned.
