ScriptSave, a Tucson company that offers a national prescription discount card, has been awarded a contract by the Arizona State Retirement System for 60,000 retirees.
This is the first public entity to sign on to the 5-year-old company's concept, said Charlie Horn, chairman and president of ScriptSave.
Nationally, ScriptSave has about 5 million card users, including nine Blue Cross and Blue Shield organizations and more than 60 insurance companies. The company has a Phoenix regional office.
Retirees are not obligated to use the card, which is offered to them as a no-cost benefit. By presenting their ScriptSave card to any of more than 500 pharmacies in Arizona and 30,000 pharmacies nationwide, retirees can save as much as 30 percent on certain prescriptions.
So far, ScriptSave has saved its cardholders $39.9 million since its inception, Horn said.
This concept comes at a time when pharmaceutical costs are skyrocketing an estimated 18 percent each year.
"Retirees are the ones hardest hit," Horn said. "Our program is designed to help the seniors keep those costs under control."
