PSPRS Online Services:

Retirement process at a glance

AAA

Once public safety and corrections members decide to retire and apply for benefits, they will need to complete the Request for Retirement Estimate & Application form and include both the member and employer signatures. This ensures that the employer is aware of the date of the member’s retirement and that accurate contributions are made through the member’s last day.

Completed forms can be emailed or faxed by employers or retiring members to the Member Services Department. Contact information is on the top right corner of the form. Please note that retiring members are encouraged to provide personal email addresses on their benefit application forms, as work email addresses are often discontinued by employers after members retire.

Since PSPRS acts as the local board for Elected Officials Retirement Plan members, designated staff of the PSPRS will provide EORP members and beneficiaries with the calculation and packets for retirement, disability and/or survivor benefits. EORP employers and members can contact  [email protected]. for more information.

Deadlines

Employers will need to ensure that contributions are posted through the member’s date of retirement or enter DROP. Completed Retirement Estimate & Application Form will provide the employer with the information regarding the last day worked for contributions.

It is important to note that there may be a different enrollment deadline for the insurance enrollment form. Please see the Health Insurance section under the Retiree tab (PSPRS, CORP or Elected Officials) for enrollment information.

Double check packets before submitting to PSPRS

The top reason initial pension benefits can be delayed is that PSPRS receives an incomplete benefit packet or late receipt of the benefit packet. Incomplete or inaccurate retirement packets will be returned to the member for proper completion, which in many cases will cause a delay in benefit payments.

It is important that members review benefit packets thoroughly to prevent delays. All benefit packets need to be received by the PSPRS office by the 10th of the month in which the member/beneficiary intends to receive their first benefit payment.

On occasion, PSPRS will have to reconcile retiring members’ credited service, pensionable income or contribution history with employers. This process may delay payment of benefits.

Disability retirement applications for benefits

Public safety and corrections disability retirement applications are considered by local boards. Information about disability retirement applications, process and deadlines can be found on the PSPRS Local Boards webpage.
